The Engineering pipeline is an award winning enterprise with the aim of increasing the number of students gaining access to Universities across the UK to studying Engineering and Computer science related courses through student to student peer assisted learning. The scheme is designed to work well with all schools and students from different backgrounds and interest, that is, science and non-science related subjects across the UK. The Engineering Pipeline is building an educational based learning which it believes should be taught from an elementary stage at secondary schools and its primary objective is to introduce University students to taking action towards this initiative through volunteering their time to running electronics and computer practical sessions with all interested secondary school students.
The Engineering Pipeline was founded in November 2012 by Temitope Ogunrekun (with the support of four other Electronic Engineering students from University College London) who is an alumnus of Teach First (Higher Education Access Programme for Schools) mentoring scheme. The scheme was supported by UnLtd after observing the high prospects & importance of The Engineering Pipeline’s objective to Secondary schools students in the future.
This programme, amongst its objectives, aims to target raising awareness of skill-set students can build-on from an elementary age which would make a massive contribution to their academics in tandem with making education fun through student to student assisted learning.
With the prospects developed from an early stage, the scheme is continuingly attracting the best students in the electronics engineering department of UCL to volunteer, hence; developing algorithmic mindset of secondary students from an early age.
We are extremely glad to have the full support of UCL academics to run University laboratory session for students during and after term time, a better way of improving students understanding of electronics and computer skills. The Engineering pipeline is also very grateful for the support of Deutsche Bank to mentoring the scheme towards building a solid foundation and better longevity.
The Engineering pipeline believes the government needs support to act swiftly on the challenges currently facing the UK educational system; more practical skills in tandem with quality understanding of computer science and its immediate importance to the future of technology through tutorials on basic computer programming sessions.
Our goal and ambition is to improve the standard of UK educational system by primarily focussing on the grass-root development of students and having the ability to “code a computer” through the implementation of peer assisted learning, hence; increasing the number of UK secondary school obtaining offers at top Universities.
The Engineering Pipeline is exceptionally thankful to the support received from different organisations.
